Farmville, Virginia - Behind two more goals from senior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico), the Pacific field hockey team defeated Longwood, 4-1 on Sunday Oct. 8 for their second NorPac victory in as many days. With the win the Tigers advanced to 8-6 on the season and 2-1 in the NorPac conference while the Lancers fell to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Although Longwood's Danielle Woodie scored the first goal of the game 24:43 into the first period, the rest of the contest would be controlled by the Tigers. Less than two minutes later, senior Jennifer Chaney (Campbell, Calif.) netted a shot to tie the game at one a piece. Then, just four minutes before half, Campos scored the go ahead goal for the Tigers by taking advantage of a loose ball that popped out into the middle of the circle.
Although the first two goals would have been enough, Pacific would add two more goals in the second half as well. Senior Brianne Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif.) was the third senior of the game to score for the Tigers when she netted her second goal of the road trip 19 minutes into the second period. Two minutes later, Campos would score Pacific's fourth and final goal bringing her tally to twenty on the season.
The Tigers out shot the Lancers 11-5 in the game and recorded a 6-5 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Kelly Miller (Monterey, Calif.) had one save in the contest as the Tigers limited Longwood to only two shots on goal.
Pacific will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when they take on Davidson in Berkeley, Calif. at 3:00 PM.
