Farmville, Virginia - After playing to a 2-2 tie through two overtime periods, the Tigers defeated Radford in penalty strokes, 3-2 on Saturday, Oct. 7. With the win Pacific advanced to 7-6 on the season and 1-1 conference play, while Radford fell to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in the NorPac conference.
In the first round of the stroke off the Tigers were able to net their first shot and Junior goalkeeper Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.) was able to keep Radford from scoring. Then, in the second round, Radford was able to capitalize after Pacific second attempt failed to score. Later, after both teams each made their next two strokes, freshman Lisa Muhl (Harleysville, PA) netted the Tiger's fifth attempt and Radford's final stroke sailed high to give the Tiger's their first NorPac victory of the season.
In the first half, Senior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored the Tigers first goal 8:11 into the match by intercepting a clearance pass to give Pacific an early lead. Nine minutes later however, Radford's Emily Jones scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game up at 1-1 going into the break.
In the second half the Tiger's were able to regain the lead when freshman Katy McDonough (Ventura, Calif.) scored her fourth goal of the season by redirecting a free hit that was taken by Campos. Later, Radford's Stephanie McLamb scored the goal that would send the game into overtime.
Throughout regulation and in overtime the Tigers out shot the Highlanders 21-7 and they were able to record a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Niles had four saves on the day, including a stop that came late in the second overtime period to send the game to penalty strokes.
