Charlottesville, Virginia - The Pacific field hockey team was defeated by No. 9 Virginia, 4-2 on Thursday, Oct. 5. With the loss the Tigers fell to 6-6 on the season while the Cavaliers advanced to 9-4.
Virginia's Liz Hiltz was the first to score in the game as she netted a goal only 2:11 into the first period. Senior Brianne Martinez (Chula Vista, Calif.) tied it up for the Tigers thirteen minutes later by scoring the second goal of her career, which is her first goal of the season.
Later in the half, Virginia's Traci Ragukas scored a goal on an assist from Abby Taylor to give the Cavaliers a 2-1 lead going into the break.
In the second half, three goals were scored within five minutes of each other. Virginia netted two of the goals and Pacific netted one. The Cavaliers scored with sixteen minutes left in the game and then again with fourteen minutes left on a pair of goals from Mia Link and Sara Confer. Then, less than two minutes later, Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored her seventeenth goal of the season on another penalty corner to make the final 4-2.
The Tigers will be back in action with a conference game on Saturday, Oct. 7 against Radford in Farmville, Virginia. The game will start at 11:30 AM.
