Tigers captures final match of UCSB Elephant Bar Tournament, defeat Stanford, 3-1

Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Pacific Tigers men's volleyball team defeated Stanford, 3-1, to capture its first victory of the season on Saturday, Jan. 7.

After losses to Cal State Northridge and Southern Cal, the Tigers continued their recent dominance of Stanford, winning in four sets, 30-27, 28-30, 30-14 and 30-26. Going back to two preseason victories against the Cardinal in the Dino Cup in November, the Tigers are 3-0 this collegiate year against Stanford.

Junior Andreas Baboulidis (Russelsheim, Germany) led the Tigers' attack with 21 kills on 34 attempts in the four sets. Senior Brian Adamson (Arlington Heights, Ill.) added 16 kills and sophomore hitter Pekka Seppanen (Kuopio, Finland) contributed 11.

Junior setter Mitch Hazelett (Roanoke, Ind.), the Tigers only remaining starter from a year ago, had 53 assists on the afternoon. Defensively, libero Garrett Morales (Long Beach, Calif.) teamed with Seppanen for seven digs apiece while Hazelett added two blocks.

The Tigers first win of the season moves their record to 1-2 while the Cardinal fell to 0-3. Pacific men's volleyball will next be in action against Southern Cal in Los Angeles on Friday, January 13.
