Tigers Lose 4-1 at Louisville

Sept. 8, 2005

Final Stats

LOUISVILLE, Kent. - The Pacific field hockey team fell 4-1 against Louisville, Thursday Sept. 8. The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-4 on the season.

The Tigers started the game much like the last time the two teams met, last year in a play-in game at Stockton for an NCAA Tournament berth, but history would not repeat itself this time around.

Pacific junior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico), who scored the overtime goal in last years game to beat the Cardinals got the Tigers off to a quick start as she scored just 3:28 into the game. However that would be almost the last time Pacific threatended in the game as they were outshot 24 to 3.

Pacific's goalkeeper, sophomore Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.), recorded a career high 12 saves but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals took advantage of 16 penalty corners.

Louisville's Janelle Avila evened the score at 1-1 midway through the first period on a penalty corner and Jen Payne responded with back-to-back goals to end the first half. The Cardinals Jessica Javelet added the final goal of the game seven minutes into the second half.

The Tigers are back in action Sept. 9 as they travel up the road to Bloomington for a 5 p.m. game against the Hoosiers.
