Pacific field hockey played Big 10 Michigan State tough in a chilly game at Berkeley, Sept. 3 but failed to counterattack Michigan State's two goals. The Tigers fell 2-0 Saturday night, shooting only four times and attempting only two penalty corners.
Michigan State's Ashley Pernicano scored a goal on the Spartans' first shot of the game with 19:01 left in the first half. The back and forth battled continued until the Spartans' Kathryn Elenz-Martin netted an insurance goal with 28:32 remaining in the second. The goal came off an assist from Pernicano.
The Tigers pickup play against another Big 10 conference team; Iowa at Berkeley on Sept. 5.
