Pacific field hockey fell 2-1 to Stanford Sunday, Sept. 25 in a non-conference meeting between the two NorPac rivals at Brookside Field.
The Tigers started out on the aggressive, controlling the ball for much of the first half but never capitalizing on scoring opportunities while the Cardinal struggled to advance the ball. However with 16:07 to go in the first half Stanford's Missy Halliday connected off a penalty corner setup by Aska Sturdevan. The Cardinal netted another goal just four minutes later off a breakaway by Caroline Hussey.
The score remained at 2-0 going into the half with Tigers getting four shots to the Cardinal five and one penalty corner to Stanford's four.
The Tigers looked to get back in the game as midway through the second half sophomore Natalie Purcell (San Diego, Calif.) netted her fifth goal of the season. Pacific managed to get nine second half shots but could not find the net once more before time ran out.
Pacific finished with 13 shots to Stanford's seven and five penalty corners to the Cardinal seven.
The loss puts the Tigers' record at 4-6 overall and thus being a non-conference game keeps their NorPac standing at 2-0.
