LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Behind a school record four goals from junior Vianney Campos the Pacific Tigers field hockey team defeated Appalachian State, 5-1. With the win the Tigers moved to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the NorPac Conference, while Appalachian State dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference.
The Tigers tied a school record Sunday afternoon for goals in a game (5) and junior Vianney Campos' four goals broke the only school scoring record she hadn't held; goals in a game. Junior Jennifer Chaney also tied the school record for assists in a season as her two this afternoon gave her six on the year.
Campos got the Tigers rolling late in the first half, scoring an unassisted goal 29:30 into the game and netting another one on an assist from Chaney with just over a minute to go before the half. She continued her onslaught once the second half began as Chaney hooked her up once more. Campos' hat trick goal came at the 36:21 mark in the game.
Sophomore Natalie Purcell netted her third goal of the season on an assist from Campos just thirty seconds after Campos' goal. The Tiger's continued to attack on offense, shooting 22 times during the game and defending well, allowing only seven shots all day. With less than ten minutes to go in the contest Campos struck again, this time off an assist from junior Marissa Atilano. Appalachian State scored their only goal of the game with 4:05 left on the clock as Carrie Johnson netted a goal off an assist from Ashley Green.
"It's a great feeling to go out and do what we needed to do to get the win while getting the conference season off to a good start," said Campos.
The Tigers are now 3-0 all-time against the Mountaineers.
