Field hockey wins home opener 2-0, over Miami (OH)

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team won their home opener 2-0 against Miami (OH) Sunday at Brookside Field. The win was the Tigers' first of the season and moved their record to 1-1.

Sophomore forward Natalie Purcell (San Diego, Calif.) netted Pacific's first goal at 23:07 in the first half on her only shot on goal of the game. The Tigers' insurance goal came at the stick of sophomore Katie Fixsen (Vista, Calif.) off an assist by Jen Chaney with just over six minutes to go in the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Valerie Niles led Pacific's defense, shutting out the Redhawks and saving seven shots; most of which came off of Miami's nine penalty corners.

Miami's Taylor Florence tried to jumpstart the Redhawk offense as she recorded a game-high six shot attempts.

The Tiger's attempted eight shots on goal to the Redhawks' seven.

Pacific field hockey is back in action September 2 and 3 as they play Big East Syracuse and Big 10 Michigan State at Berkeley this Friday and Saturday.
