Tigers force overtime, but fall to Delaware, 3-2

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team battled to overtime against Delaware Saturday before falling 3-2. The loss moved Pacific to 0-1 on the season, while Delaware moved to 1-0.

Pacific's all-time leading scorer junior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) netted two goals on six shots to lead the Tigers in the opening game of the 2005 season.

The Blue Hens jumped to a quick lead as Casey Howard scored an unassisted goal just four minutes into the game. Campos' first goal came off a penalty corner shot courtesy of senior Laura Maurer and set-up by senior Kaily McGrath with 17:17 to go in the first half.

Delaware's Molly Burke helped the Hens regain the lead off a corner with 5:27 left in the first and that's how the half ended, with Delaware up 2-1.

Pacific tied the score midway through the second half when Campos scored on a penalty shot but neither team could score again before the end of regulation.

In the fourth minute of overtime Delaware's Howard scored the game-winning goal on a cross pass from Amber Deimler.

The Tiger's had 12 shots to the Hen's 11 and had six corner opportunities to Delaware's three.

The Tigers are back in action, tomorrow, Aug. 28 as Pacific hosts Miami (OH) at 1 p.m.
