Pacific returns to the NorPac Championship finals, with comeback 2-1 win over Radford in double overtime

Berkeley, Calif. - Pacific field hockey came from behind against Radford for a thrilling double overtime victory in the semifinals of the NorPac Tournament. The Tigers' 2-1 win on Friday afternoon propels them to the finals against california.

Pacific controlled possession of the ball throughout the first half, but neither team was able to score. The Tigers outshot Radford 16-4 in the period and held a 9-1 advantage on corners.

Despite the Tigers' dominance of the ball, it was Radford that took the lead with 15:39 mark. Radford's Stephanie McLamb scored an unassisted goal by beating Pacific's Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.).

The Tigers responded with under five minutes remaining in the contest as senior Michelle Manson (Encinitas, Calif.) flipped in a penalty shot to tie the game at 1-1. Pacific earned the penalty stroke moments earlier as Radford's goalie Amy Dietz trapped the ball underneath her body.

Following a scoreless first overtime, Pacific won the match as sophomore Elle Busch (San Jose, Calif.) took a short pass from sophomore Natalie Purcell (San Diego, Calif.) and sent it past Dietz on a scramble in front of the net, three minutes into the second overtime.

In the game, Pacific outshot Radford 27-7, but the Highlanders' Amy Dietz kept the Tigers at bay with a game-high 13 saves.

Pacific moves on to face California in the championship match as the Golden Bears defeated Stanford, 2-1, in the second NorPac semi-final of the day.

The championship game is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

The Tigers and Golden Bears also met in the NorPac Championship final last season, with Pacific defeating California, 3-2, on Nov. 6.

The two teams have split two games this season and shared the NorPac regular season championship.
