Davis, Calif.- No. 9 Pacific picked up back-to-back wins in the first day of action at the UC Davis Aggie Shootout, defeating BYU-Hawaii, 13-9, and UC Santa Cruz, 13-8, on Saturday, October 29. With the wins, the Tigers moved to 9-5 on the season.
In the first game of the day and with the score tied at two after one quarter, the Tigers slowly took control of the match, building a lead throughout the final three quarters. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead into the half on the arm of sophomore Dragan Bakic (Split, Croatia) who netted three times in the first half including two goals in the second period. Bakic continued his strong play in the second half as he found the back of the net twice more in the third quarter and once in the fourth to give him a game-high six goals. Junior Clint McLaughin (El Cajon, Calif.) and senior Adam Zobler (Sutton, Mass.) also added two goals apiece in the third quarter, helping to offset BYU-Hawaii's five goals in the quarter.

Continuing his excellence from the first game, Bakic equaled his initial goal scoring outburst with another six goal performance in the Tigers' second game of the day. Just as he had in the first game, Bakic scored once in the first and fourth quarters while netting twice in the second and third quarters. Unlike the first game, the Tigers' took control of the game early, taking a four goals to one advantage after the first quarter. Pacific added to its lead before the half, shutting out the banana slugs in the second while scoring three times to gain a 7-1 lead at the break. From that point, the Tigers coasted to victory. In the first half, senior Marko Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia) gave up just one goal while making eight saves before coming out of the game in the second half.
