Stockton, Calif. -
The Pacific field hockey team remained undefeated in NorPac conference play as they defeated Longwood 6-1, Tuesday, October 18 at Brookside Field. The Tigers' six goals set a new school record and their five goal margin of victory ties the school record for biggest win.
Pacific wasted no time as defender Kaily McGrath (Somis, Calif.) netted the team's first goal off a penalty corner set up by Dana Walsh (Carlsbad, Calif.) just :50 into the game. The Tigers continued to control the ball as Jennifer Chaney (Campbell, Calif.) found the back of the net less than six minutes later with her third goal of the season.
Longwood looked to keep the score close as Julie Price set up Cristin Newbold for a Lancer goal 14:23 into the first half. However they would get the score no closer than 2-1 as the Tigers would find the goal three more times in the first half and add another one in the final period.
Junior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) added the Tiger's third goal of the game and her 11th of the season with 15 minutes remaining in the half and Marissa Atilano (Escondido, Calif.) dropped in her fifth goal of the season at the 21:02 mark. The Tigers got one more goal in the first half; Chaney's second of the game off an assist from Campos eight minutes before the break.
The second half saw more of the same for the Tigers as Atilano scored again off a penalty corner redirection from Elizabeth Blount (Alexandria, Vir.).
The Tigers accumulated 26 shots in the game to Longwood's six and 14 penalty corners while the Lancers attempted only six.
The six goals by Pacific broke the previous record of five in a game, set last year in a 5-0 win over Stanford on Sept. 21.
