Stanford, Calif. - Trailing 3-0 early in the second half, the Pacific Tigers rallied to score three goals in ten minutes to tie the game and went on to defeat the Cardinal, 4-3 in penalty strokes. The win moved Pacific to 5-6 on the season and 3-0 in NorPac Conference play, while Stanford fell to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The Cardinal took a 2-0 lead in the first half and stretched the lead to 3-0 just two minutes into the second half as Missy Halliday scored an unassisted goal with 33:05 remaining in the game.
Pacific answered in a hurry as the Tigers earned a corner under two minutes later and junior Vianney Campos (Guadalajara, Mexico) scored the Tigers' first goal of the game.
Just over four minutes later, sophomore Marissa Atilano (Escondido, Calif.) pulled the Tigers within one as she found the back of the net with 17:21 remaining in the game to make it 3-2.
The Tigers completed the spirited comeback just under three minutes later as Campos once again converted a corner play to tie the game at 3-3. The Tigers three goals came in just under a seven minute span.
The game would remain tied at 3-3 through regulation and two overtime periods, sending the contest into a shootout. As the visiting team, the Tigers shot first. Campos converted the first goal for Pacific, but Stanford's Julia Drewes evened the shootout at one. Pacific freshman Danielle Neault (San Diego, Calif.) scored on the Tigers' second stroke to make it 2-1. That lead stood as Pacific's sophomore goalkeeper Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.) denied the following three Cardinal attackers.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 as the Tigers travel to Berkeley, Calif. to take on the California Golden Bears at 1 p.m.
