RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program concluded its two-match road trip this week with a 2-0 setback to California Baptist on Sunday afternoon from CBU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers (1-6-2) found themselves searching for a second-half comeback over the Lancers (5-2) but could not solve the clean sheet streak by the home team in the weekend's effort.
Freshman
Harrison Chapura accounted for half of Pacific's shot attempts on the day with two to his name – both of which were on target. Elsewhere, freshman
Xavier Cisneros and sophomore
Josephat Yangyuoru were credited with shot attempts in Pacific's offense across the 90 minutes.
On the other side, graduate student
Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made his sixth consecutive start in goal for the Tigers, notching three saves in the afternoon bout with the Lancers.
CBU scored goals in the 14th and 42nd minutes to carry over a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. The Lancers managed to out-shoot the Tigers in both halves, although Pacific created more scoring opportunities with four more corner kick attempts than CBU, including six during the second-half push.
The Tigers tried to look for an answer offensively all afternoon, but the wall of the Lancers proved to be too tall in the end.
Pacific will look to shift gears toward its next opponent, hosting California on Friday night at 7 p.m. from Knoles Field to wrap up the non-conference slate.
