POCATELLO, Idaho – The Pacific women's volleyball program battled throughout their opening match of the Orange & Black Classic, ultimately falling to the host Idaho State 25-12, 25-19, 25-17 inside Reed Gym.
The Tigers (4-6) found their rhythm in the second set taking a 14-11 lead, sparked by sophomore
Julia Porath's all-around performance leading the Tigers in the kills' department.
Defensively, junior
Alessia Couchond and sophomore
Bella Gutierrez handled the Bengals' (8-2) attack recording four digs apiece in the second set. The pair of student-athletes finished with six and a team-high nine digs respectively, while Couchond also finished the match with a team-high 19 assists.
Freshman
Vanessa Zussino contributed in multiple areas for the Tigers, recording a team-high two service aces to go along with one kill and two blocks. Her two service aces mark her fourth multi-ace performance on the season.
At the net, sophomore
Adeline Sirbu and freshman
Ellie Prindl helped turn away the Bengals' attacks recording two and one block respectively.
Junior
Nicole Zake continued her strong offensive performance, recording eight kills to lift her season total past the century mark.
Up next, the Pacific will look to bounce back against Boise State as the Orange & Black Classic continues. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from Reed Gym and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
