SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – On Sunday morning, the Pacific men's tennis team was unable to build on a doubles point victory, resulting in a 4-1 loss to Cal Poly.
Sophomore
Christof Schaertlin Coffey and freshman
Reuben De Klerk cruised to a win on court two before sophomores
Jonty Giesen and
Nico Rating clinched the point with a 6-4 triumph on court one to send Pacific (5-8) out front going into the intermission.
For the former pair, the victory represented their fifth of the season and the latter pair won in their first match teaming up this season.
However, out of the break Cal Poly (8-4) quickly captured the momentum and rode it to four straight set wins on courts one, three, four and six.
The two unfinished courts were in Pacific's favor when play was halted. On court two, Schaertlin Coffey had won the first set and was locked in a close second set. De Klerk on court five had also won the first set with a duel under way in set two.
In the coming week, Pacific remains on the road for matchups at Oral Roberts and at Tulsa in Oklahoma. The match against ORU will be on Wednesday and the meeting with Tulsa a day later on Thursday.
