STOCKTON, Calif. – The defense stood tall for the No. 24 Pacific women's water polo program as it knocked off No. 14 UC Davis 8-7 in a non-conference game Saturday at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
Â
Pacific (8-6, 1-1 GCC) never trailed in the contest and held UC Davis (9-11, 2-2 BW) scoreless in two different quarters. The Tigers built an 8-5 lead with 3:38 left in the fourth and successfully ran out the clock down the stretch.
Â
The Tigers improved to 2-0 at home this year and have won five of their last six games overall. The eight goals were the fewest Pacific needed in a win since Feb. 17, 2024 when they beat San Jose State 8-7.
Â
Juniors
Anna Crum and
Laia Marsinach Ortega notched two goals apiece to lead the offense. Junior
Maja Lizy Dulic played the whole way in net and was credited with a pair of saves.
Â
The Tigers led 2-0 after one quarter on goals from Crum and junior
Millie Jacobson. Pacific was still on top 3-1 in the second on a score by Ortega, but UC Davis answered with a pair to knot it 3-3 at the half.
Â
Pacific scored the first three goals in the second half on tallies from Crum, junior
Ella Cowan and freshman
Maria Ikonomou. The Tigers stayed in front 8-5 with 3:38 to go in the fourth on a score by junior
Alicia Petkov.
Â
UC Davis came as close as 8-7, but with under 30 seconds left, Pacific was able to pass it around and burn out the clock.
Â
It was the Aggies first trip to Stockton since 2021. The Tigers and Aggies played the last two seasons in Davis, with UC Davis winning 15-10 in 2025 and Pacific winning 13-10 in 2024.
Â
Pacific will play in back-to-back days as it heads to No. 17 San Jose State (6-9, 0-3 MPSF) for a 1 p.m. game Sunday. The Tigers will resume conference play Saturday, March 14 when they host No. 7 LMU at 11 a.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
