Men’s Tennis Drops Home Match to Hawai’i

STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific got off to a strong start in doubles, but slipped up during the singles portion and took a 4-1 defeat to Hawai'i on Wednesday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

Sophomore Christof Schaertlin Coffey and freshman Reuben De Klerk handled business on court two for the Tigers (5-6) with a 6-2 win that, after a Hawai'i (5-4) win on court three, put all eyes on court one to decide who would be in front going into singles.

Sophomores Jonty Giesen and Niv Zuckerman pulled through in a tiebreaker to give Pacific the 1-0 lead.

The pair on court one took the court together for the first time since February 6 and pulled out win number four, their third consecutive triumph – they are currently 4-1 this season. On court two, the duo also notched their fourth win and improved to 4-2.

Straight set losses on courts three, five and six suddenly put Pacific on the back foot with courts one, two and four going to a third set. Sophomore Nico Rating on court four was unable to extend the match any longer and the Pacific was dealt the setback.

Up next for the Tigers is another road series down south, facing San Diego State on a neutral court on Saturday before a road match against Cal Poly on Sunday. Both matches are set to be played on the campus of Cal Poly.
