Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

No. 25 Pacific Topped by No. 19 San Diego State on the Road

SAN DIEGO – After a tight first half, the No. 25 Pacific women's water polo program was unable to keep pace in the second as No. 19 San Diego State took a 17-10 decision Sunday in a Golden Coast Conference game at the Aztec Aquaplex.

The Tigers (7-6, 1-1 GCC) came back from a three-goal first half deficit to trail just 7-6 at the intermission. Pacific was down 12-10 late in the third before SDSU (10-7, 3-1 GCC) scored the last five goals of the game.

A pair of hat tricks came from juniors Ella Cowan and Alicia Petkov. They were two of six Tigers to find the back of the net including junior Anna Crum, junior Laia Marsinach Ortega, junior Millie Jacobson and freshman Eleni Ikonomou. Freshman Maria Ikonomou dished out a pair of assists.

Junior goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic played the whole way in net and made five saves.

Ortega put the Tigers on the board to even it 1-1 in the first. Pacific trailed 4-3 midway through the second on a goal by Petkov, and was down 7-6 after a score by Cowan late in the second.

After the Aztecs built an 11-7 advantage in the third, Petkov scored to trim it to 12-10 at the 1:27 mark. However, SDSU added a tally late in the third and didn't concede a goal in the fourth.

Pacific will play its first home game in over a month when it hosts UC Davis in a non-conference match Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
