LA JOLLA, Calif. – The top three singles courts of Pacific's match against UC San Diego went to three sets, but Pacific was unable to turn enough of those courts into wins and suffered a 4-2 setback Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (5-5) were put on the back foot early on after doubles losses on courts one and three. Once in singles, Pacific and UCSD (7-8) traded early straight set wins to set the score at 2-1. Freshman
Reuben De Klerk picked up his third win of the season, and his second of the weekend on court five. The Tritons countered with a win on court six.
Sophomore
Jonty Giesen then overcame a first set loss to secure the second point for the Tigers on court one, his team leading sixth win. The sophomore also went 2-0 over the weekend. On court three, graduate
Terence Das fought back from a one set deficit to force a third set but was unable to complete the comeback.
Court two saw the Tigers unable to hang on to a first set win, clinching the match in favor of UCSD.
Pacific returns home to Stockton for a quick one match pit stop against Hawai'i on Wednesday before going down to San Luis Obispo for a neutral court match against San Diego State and a road match versus Cal Poly.
Wednesday's match will be streamed on Track Tennis.
