DAVIS, Calif. – When pressure was put on the Pacific men's tennis program, the team responded with clutch wins on singles courts four and five to claim a 4-2 victory over UC Davis on Wednesday afternoon.
Before the match clinching courts came into question, the Tigers (3-1) got off to a strong start thanks to comfortable doubles wins on courts two and three. Sophomore
Christof Schaertlin Coffey teamed up with freshman
Reuben De Klerk to take court two while sophomore
Nico Rating and freshman
Hasith Gummuluru paired up to clinch the doubles point on court three.
Once in singles, sophomore
Jonty Giesen extended his hot start to the season by dispatching his opponent on court two with little resistance and moved to 3-1 on the season. UC Davis (3-4) wins on singles courts one and three knotted the match at two points each with the ability for UCD to pull ahead on court six. However, that court would not come into question as Rating edged out his foe on court five in straight sets to put Pacific ahead 3-2 and then sophomore
Niv Zuckerman delivered the match clinching points with a three-set triumph on court four. Zuckerman on the young season is also 3-1 this season in his singles matches.
Up next for Pacific is a rematch with UC Santa Barbara on Friday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. First serve for the doubles portion of the match starts at 10 a.m. and will be live streamed on Track Tennis.
