MALIBU, Calif. – University of the Pacific women's volleyball team (4-11, 0-3 WCC) dropped a straight-set West Coast Conference decision at Pepperdine (11-3, 3-0 WCC) Thursday evening at Firestone Fieldhouse.
As a team, Pacific compiled 19 total kills, with
Nicole Zake recording a team-best seven and adding 7.5 points.
Julia Porath and
Hanna Vorhies helped guide the Tigers offensively with three kills apiece. Suzanne Kemeles posted an efficient .500 hitting percentage throughout the match, while
Alessia Couchond set up the Tiger attackers with 12 assists.
Defensively, Pacific recorded four total blocks, highlighted by solo rejections from
Adeline Sirbu and
Olga Gergacz. The backline was led by
Ella Gridley, Isabella Gutierez, and Couchond, who combined for 16 digs.
Pacific fell behind early in the first set as Pepperdine raced out to an 8-3 advantage. Trailing 19-10 following a 4-1 scoring run from the Waves, the Tigers closed the deficit with four of the next five points to get within 20-14. Despite the late push, Pacific dropped three of the final four points as Pepperdine secured the opening frame, 25-17.
The Waves controlled the pace of play in the second and third frames, earning 25-13 and 25-14 victories to secure the match in a three-set decision.
Pacific concludes its four-match road trip to begin league play at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, when it takes on LMU at Gersten Pavilion.
