LOS ANGELES, Calif. –
Nicole Zake recorded double-digit kills for the eighth time this season as University of the Pacific women's volleyball team (4-12, 0-4 WCC) fell at LMU (13-2, 4-0 WCC) 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Gersten Pavilion.
Zake recorded 10 kills while swinging at a .280 clip throughout the three-set contest to lead Pacific offensively.
Alessia Couchond added 20 assists to help pace the Tigers' offense, her eighth match with 20 or more assists this season. Couchond last reached the 20-assist threshold on September 19, when she totaled a season-best 36 against Wyoming.
LMU opened a double-digit lead early in the first set, jumping ahead 17-7, following a 10-3 scoring run. Trailing by 13, 24-11, its largest deficit of the first set, Pacific chipped away with four straight points to trim the margin to nine, 24-15. Zake and
Ellie Prindl recorded a kill and a service ace, while the team forced the Lions into two attack errors during the run. The Lions, however, ultimately recorded the final point of the frame to take an early lead in the match, 25-15.
The Tigers kept pace with the Lions at the start of the second set, as
Hannah Koester recorded a kill for a 6-5 advantage. LMU regained the lead shortly after and raced to a 25-18 win. The Lions continued the pressure in the third set and secured the match win with a 25-17 victory.
Pacific returns to Stockton for its season opener when it hosts Portland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
