Tigers Defense Clamps Down on UNCW in Weekend Finale

STATESBORO, Ga. – To close out the Eagle Invitational, Pacific volleyball forced 22 attacking errors against UNCW and served 11 aces in a three-set (25-19, 25-15, 25-12) rout of the Seahawks Sunday morning at Hanner Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Alyson Cox set a new career-best four aces in the match, three of which came right in a row in the first set to put Pacific (4-2) out in front and set the tone for the rest of the match. Cox was busy elsewhere on the court, picking up two kills, five digs and 15 assists. After today's match, she now ranks top three on the team in digs, assists, blocks, and service aces.

Joining her on the service line was senior Jayhlin Swain, who also served up four aces and tied her career-high in the category (last done in 2023 with Michigan State). The senior also anchored a defense that only conceded one service ace and dug 52 balls (17 of which came from Swain). The ace is becoming a pivotal component of the Tigers game plan as the team entered the weekend on pace for 242 aces at the end of the season and leave Georgia with that projection up to 247 – both outputs would be season highs under Head Coach Greg Gibbons.

In terms of traditional offense, Pacific spread out the attack with seven players logging a kill, led by senior Logan Blutreich and freshman Hannah Koester's eight kills each. Right behind the pair was graduate Olivia Keller and freshman Mazi Smith, who each swung for five kills. As a team, Pacific hit a season best .232 on the match.

Sophomore Alessia Couchond led the way with 15 digs to set up her teammates for success.

Coming up for the Tigers is a two-match swing in Reno, Nevada where Pacific will meet both Nevada and Eastern Washington on the volleyball court. In the series history, the Tigers lead Nevada 26-8 and EWU 2-0.
