SAN DIEGO – The Pacific women's soccer program opened up West Coast Conference play, settling to a 0-0 draw at San Diego on Wednesday night at Torero Stadium.
The Tigers (3-3-3) and the Toreros (3-0-5) battled evenly all evening with both sides trading three shots on goal in each effort offensively. Both schools extended their current unbeaten streaks as the Tigers have now drawn or claimed victory in four consecutive matches.
Despite USD owning a majority of the possession throughout the bout, Pacific pounced early with junior
Kaya Rosa getting most of the looks early on. Rosa finished the match with a team-leading two shots. Graduate student
Taylor Curtis and senior
Haley Johnson each also recorded a shot on target, fueling Pacific's offensive attempts.
Freshman
Lis Van Herwijnen made her fourth career start in goal, making three saves on the night defensively, including a game-saving stop on a Torero shot in the 88th minute that kept the game deadlocked in the late stages.
For Van Herwijnen, Wednesday's result marks her second shutout of her first-year campaign. She has allowed just two goals in her last four matches.
The last time Pacific drew against San Diego was during the 2021 season, which came by way of a similar 0-0 score. The Tigers are now 2-1-3 in their last six contests against the Toreros.
Pacific will fly back to Stockton and get set for its first match at Knoles Field in 27 days, inviting Portland for the WCC home opener at noon on Sunday. The Tigers seek their first victory over the Pilots since the 2017 campaign.
