Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pacific Blanked by San Jose State

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision against San Jose State on Sunday night at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (2-6) had a few key looks early on to strike, but a pair of second-half goals by the Spartans (5-1-2) proved to be the difference in Pacific's penultimate non-conference match of the regular season.

Of the notable performers for the Tigers, senior Matteo Carbone generated a couple scoring chances with a team-high two shots on target – both in the second half of action. The Tigers collectively out-shot the Spartans in the second half by a 9-7 margin, but the whole night saw SJSU pace that category, 15-12.

Junior Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made his eighth consecutive start in goal, making four saves along the way. The native of San Jose, California had most of his work cut out for him in the second half as he stopped three Spartan shots in that frame.

After a scoreless 45 minutes of play, SJSU broke the deadlock on a penalty kick conversion from a hand ball call in the box. Angel Iniguez kicked the attempt past Ruiz-Hurst for the first goal of the contest in the 50th minute. The Spartans would tack on another goal on a low shot from the right side that snuck in off the foot of Jordi Tortell Daly.

Pacific looks ahead to West Coast Conference action with its first conference game at home on Saturday against LMU at 4 p.m. from Knoles Field.
