Men’s Soccer Falls to LMU 3-0 in Conference Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program opened up West Coast Conference play, dropping a 3-0 decision to LMU on Saturday afternoon at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (2-7, 0-1 WCC) and the Lions (5-3-2, 1-0 WCC) were practically even statistically, although the visitors found the back of the net three times that proved to be the difference in the first conference contest of the 2025 campaign.

Senior Luca Baltzer continues to be a presence offensively with the ball, taking a game-high four shot attempts, including a pair on target. Baltzer was one of seven Tigers to play the full length of the match, extending that 90-minute playing time in five straight games. Baltzer's shots on goal were the only ones by Pacific on LMU's goalkeeper.

Junior Mateus Ruiz-Hurst made his ninth consecutive start manning the goal, making two saves in the process. Ruiz-Hurst faced seven shot attempts by the Lions throughout the afternoon.

Early goals in each half were the name of the game for LMU, scoring in the 15th and 50th minutes to hold a two-goal cushion before Pacific applied more aggressive pressure. Utilizing a season-high seven corner kicks, the Tigers had their fair share of chances to score in the second half, but the Lions iced the game away with a breakaway goal in the the final minute for the 3-0 final score.

Pacific continues WCC play next week, hitting the road to face new WCC member Seattle on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in Seattle, Washington.
