SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A cold night offensively put Pacific volleyball in a two-set hole it was ultimately unable to overcome, falling in three-sets (19-25, 16-25, 10-25) to Sacramento State on Friday night inside The Nest.
A normally potent attack from the service line, Pacific (5-5) was held to two aces on the contest, both of which came from sophomore
Alessia Couchond. In addition to the service aces, she led the team in assists at 14.
Often on the receiving end of her assists was graduate
Olivia Keller, who added ten more kills to her season ledger. On her second kill of the match, Keller reached 300 kills in her career. As a team, Pacific finished the match with a season low .057 hitting percentage.
Defensively, senior
Jayhlin Swain rebounded back into double digit digs with 12 while redshirt freshman
Mila Stojakovic dug out a career best eight balls. In order to get to Swain or Stojakovic, Sacramento State (6-5) had to get past graduate
Valentina Varani who tallied four of the eight total blocks on the match for Pacific.
Rounding out Pacific's non-conference schedule, and the end of the Central California Challenge, is CSU Bakersfield on Saturday at 11 a.m. With a win over the Roadrunners, Head Coach
Greg Gibbons will enter WCC play with a winning record for the fourth season in a row and end the challenge with a combined 11-1 record.
In the series history, Pacific has an 8-1 record against CSU Bakersfield.
