Senior Day Bout with UC San Diego Ends in Scoreless Draw

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer program outshot UC San Diego 14-5 but just couldn't find the finishing touch in a 0-0 tie Monday on Senior Day at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (1-3-2) had a flurry of chances late, including a last-minute corner kick that nearly crossed the goal line but UC San Diego (1-1-3) was able to keep it out to preserve the tie.

"I'm disappointed we didn't get a win today, but I'm also really proud of our team for exercising the game plan. We stayed disciplined, kept our shape and fought hard. It felt like we did enough to get a win today so I'm disappointed for our team that we weren't able to get it," said head coach Jeff Freeman.

Senior Haley Johnson tallied a game-high three shots, while junior Kaya Rosa and sophomore Sierah McCallum recorded two apiece. The Tigers garnered a shot from 10 different student-athletes.

Making her first career appearance in net was freshman Lis Van Herwijnen. She submitted a clean sheet after making three saves.

Pacific remained unbeaten all-time against the Tritons with a 1-0-2 record.

Prior to the game, the Tigers honored six seniors in a special ceremony. It included Johnson, Ka'ui Lani Pinkney, Mira Scarsella, Trianne Cooper, Faylinn Berkowitz and Allie Jones.

"I can't say enough about this group of seniors. They've been amazing through the head coaching transition, leading us through the spring and into the fall, and now into the West Coast Conferences season. I'm really proud of them and I'm thankful that they're a part of this program," Freeman said.

Up next, the Tigers will have 10 days off from competition before heading to Nevada for a 7 p.m. road game on Thursday, Sept. 11. The next home game is Sunday, Sept. 28 when Pacific hosts Portland at noon in a West Coast Conference match-up.
