RENO, Nev. – Behind a pair of first-half goals, the Pacific women's program picked up its first road victory of the season, defeating Nevada, 2-1, on Thursday night at Mackay Stadium.
The Tigers (2-3-2) pounced on the Wolf Pack (1-5-1) from the opening kick, taking advantage of their opportunities early on and locking down defensively to secure the result on the road.
Redshirt junior
Mira Scarsella and senior
Haley Johnson each tallied their first goals of the 2025 campaign in setting the tone for the Pacific offense.
Scarsella opened the scoring in the seventh minute, presenting the Tigers with a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal of the contest. The native of Seattle, Washington collected her third career goal and first goal since October 18, 2023, against Gonzaga at Knoles Field.
Johnson followed Scarsella, doubling the Pacific lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick conversion in the 31st minute. The native of Muskego, Wisconsin recorded her sixth career goal and first goal since a 3-1 win on Sept. 8, 2023, at home against Southern Utah. It marked her third career goal against a non-conference opponent.
Freshman
Lis Van Herwijnen made the second start of the season in goal and earned her first career victory. Van Herwijnen was not tested much until the second half, but stepped up when called upon with two saves on the evening.
Pacific played with pace for the majority of the night, out-shooting Nevada 14-6 after the 90 minutes. After the Tigers' two-goal cushion at the halftime break, the Wolf Pack snapped the shutout bid in the 68th minute as Naima Castro found the back of the net, cutting the visitor edge to 2-1.
The Tigers' defense stood tall in the final moments and ultimately held on for the 2-1 victory. Thursday's win marks Pacific's first non-conference road victory since a 1-0 victory on Sept. 22, 2024, at UC San Diego.
With the victory, the Tigers improve to 8-4 all-time against the Wolf Pack and extended their winning streak in the head-to-head series to three games.
Pacific will remain on the road for its next contest, facing Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 in Cheney, Washington.
