SAN FRANCISCO – The Pacific cross country program opened up the 2025 campaign, featuring the inaugural race of the men's team on Friday afternoon at the USF Invitational, hosted by San Francisco at Golden Gate Park.
The Tigers' women's squad captured a ninth place finish out of the 13 teams participating in the women's 6k while the men secured eighth place out of 14 teams in their first-ever race of men's 8k. Host San Francisco earned first place in both races.
In the women's 6k, the Tigers had a trio finish among the top 50 of the race, paced by sophomore
Angelina Lione with her placement in 26th individually. Lione clocked a time of 22:02.2.
Freshman
Emma Schmutz was next to follow Lione in 31st place with a time of 22:08.01. Junior
Valeria Espinoza ranked in 44th place after recording a time of 22:30.01.
Completing their first races of the season under the 23-minute mark were graduate student
Sophia Livingston and freshman
Daphne Iosua.
Four runners ended up making their Pacific debuts on the women's side as Lione, Schmutz, Iosua and freshman
Keira Hampton competed in their first races with sub-25 minute times.
For the men's portion, the Tigers got off to a strong start in the race as four participants finished among the top half of the field. Nine Pacific runners suited up for their debuts in San Francisco.
Junior
Samuel Lanham represented the first Tiger to cross the finish line in 24th place, clocking a time of 25:19.4. With that time, Lanham becomes the first Tiger to complete the men's 8k in school history.
Freshman
Daniel Judd was not too far off from Lanham, coming in at 27th place with a time of 25:20.6. Junior
Logan Evans and sophomore
Ian Thompson collected times under the 26:10 minute mark.
Up next, Pacific will head to the Aloha State for the Big Wave Invitational Friday, Sept. 5 in O'ahu. The women earned a runner-up finish in the event last season.
