SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For the second straight contest the Pacific men's tennis team cruised past a Big Sky Conference opponent, defeating Sacramento State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex.
Pacific's (8-6) nationally ranked doubles duo of graduate
Ran Amar and sophomore
Christof Schaertlin Coffey pulled out a convincing win on court one to clinch the doubles point after freshman
Jonty Giesen and senior
Justas Trainauskas made quick work of their opponents on court two.
Once in singles, that foursome was equally effective for Head Coach
Robin Goodman's squad as all four scored points for Pacific. Schaertlin Coffey and Trainauskas won their matches in straight sets, the latter's third straight set triumph of the season and the former's second win of the season in three appearances.
Amar and Giesen both needed three sets to claim their respective wins but are critical players for the Tigers as the team is undefeated when one or both players win in singles.
Pacific's other point came on singles court one from junior
Tiago Silva, who won his match in three sets.
Up next for the Tigers is a quick turnaround to face the Saint Mary's Gaels on Sunday for the start of West Coast Conference play. First serve from the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on track tennis.
