MTEN Recap vs. Saint Mary's

Men’s Tennis Blanks Saint Mary’s to Open WCC Play

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – After taking out a tightly contested doubles point, Pacific men's tennis pulled away in the singles half to handily collect the 4-0 win over Saint Mary's Sunday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center – and moved to 1-0 in the WCC in the process.

Junior Tiago Silva, alongside partner freshman Vraj Patel, put Pacific (9-6) out to an early lead with a clean win on court three, but it would take senior Justas Trainauskas and freshman Jonty Giesen edging Saint Mary's (3-12) in a tiebreaker on court two to officially clinch the point in the Tigers' favor.

Once in singles, the team really locked in with Silva and sophomore Christof Schaertlin Coffey cruising to comfortable straight set wins in courts one and six. A medical retirement on court two gave Trainauskas the point needed to clinch the match in Pacific's favor.

When play was halted, the Tigers were in solid positions on the remaining three courts as Patel was one game away from the win on court five and Pacific held one set leads on the other two courts.
In the coming week, Pacific continues WCC play with a home match against Gonzaga on Friday and then a road match with LMU on Sunday.

Friday's home match will be streamed on Track Tennis.
