STOCKTON, Calif. – For the second straight season, the Pacific women's basketball program will be competing in postseason play, hosting New Mexico State in the opening round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
Head Coach
Bradley Davis is leading his third Pacific (15-18) squad into a postseason tournament as the program is making its eighth postseason appearance overall. The Tigers come into this tournament having reached the quarterfinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.
"Anytime you can be practicing after your conference tournament, is a time to be grateful. This team has navigated an extremely competitive non-conference and WCC schedule, and honestly, I feel as though we've played some of our best basketball recently. The field in this season's WNIT is strong, and we look forward to playing back in the [Alex G.] Spanos Center competing in the postseason," Davis said.
Pacific's inclusion in the tournament extends the careers of graduate
Liz Smith, and seniors
Elizabeth Elliott and
Anaya James, who between the three of them will be littered throughout the career record top-tens when the season officially ends.
The Tigers are looking to win a home WNIT game for the season straight season after ousting Cal Poly 63-43 last year.
Looking ahead to Thursday's matchup, Pacific and New Mexico State (17-15) reprise an old Big West Conference match-up and meet on the court for the first time since 2014. The Tigers hold a 7-2 advantage over the Aggies playing in Stockton.
