No. 20 Tigers Double Up Santa Clara in 14-7 Road Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Getting off to a fast start, the No. 20 Pacific women's water polo program went on the road and ousted Santa Clara 14-7 Saturday at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Pacific (9-6, 3-1 GCC) went up 4-1 near the end of the first quarter and carried a 6-3 edge at halftime. The Tigers pulled away with a 6-1 third quarter to take a commanding 12-4 advantage and pull away.

Three Tigers netted hat tricks. They came from junior Dora Alaksza, sophomore Alicia Petkov and sophomore Ella Cowan, who also dished out a pair of assists. Alaksza is up to 64 goals on the season, which is the second-most in the conference.

Senior Addison McGowan found the back of the net twice and recorded an assist. Senior Hila Futorian, senior Szamira Koppany and freshman Tea Fitzgerald also scored.

In net, sophomore Maja Lizy Dulic picked up the win after making 12 saves. Freshman Laurel Cooper also made an appearance in the second half.

Pacific won its 12th consecutive match over Santa Clara (4-10, 0-2 GCC) and leads the all-time series 21-9. It was the last of a three-game road swing for the Tigers.

Pacific will have a quick turnaround as it returns home for a 12:30 p.m. Sunday match against No. 4 UCLA, the defending national champion. The first 100 fans will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.
