No. 22 Pacific Cruises to 16-4 Win over UC Merced to Conclude Weekend

DAVIS, Calif. – Closing the weekend on a high note, the No. 22 Pacific women's water polo program breezed to a 16-4 victory Sunday over UC Merced in a neutral site at the Schaal Aquatics Center, hosted by UC Davis.

Pacific (5-2) took control early and built a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and an 8-1 advantage at halftime. Junior Dora Alaksza led the Tigers for the second straight day by scoring five goals on five shot attempts.

Returning to action was the senior Hila Futorian, the reigning Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week winner. After not playing in either of two matches yesterday, Futorian scored two goals and fished out five assists against UC Merced (1-8).

Also making returns were senior Addison McGowan and sophomore Ella Cowan, who missed both matches yesterday. McGowan tallied two goals and an assist, while Cowan recorded a pair of assists.

Two goals apiece were scored by sophomores Anna Crum and Lily Van Putten. Senior Natalie Johnston,  sophomore Alicia Petkov and senior Sierra Cavano also found the back of the net.

The Tigers had two goalkeepers play 16 minutes each. Sophomore Maja Lizy Dulic got the start and blocked five saves, while freshman Laurel Cooper entered in relief and rejected four saves.

Pacific will play four matches in Santa Clara, California next weekend beginning with a 10:15 a.m. rematch against Marist on Saturday. Pacific's home opener is Friday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. against Concordia University Irvine at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
