Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

No. 20 Pacific Drops Pair Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Two games didn't go Pacific's way Saturday as the 20th-ranked Tigers women's water polo program fell 18-16 to No. 23 Marist and 12-7 to No. 19 San Jose State at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
Junior Dora Alaksza paced the Tigers (5-4) offense with seven goals and an assist on the day including six against Marist (5-4). She's up to a team-high 35 goals on the year. Sophomore Anna Crum registered five goals including a hat trick against SJSU (9-6).
 
Scoring in each game was senior Hila Futorian and sophomore Ella Cowan. Futorian is second on the team in scoring with 22 goals.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic blocked 18 saves as she rejected nine in each game.
 
In the first game of the day, the Tigers trailed by five in the fourth quarter when they pushed for a late comeback attempt but ran out of time. Pacific scored the final three goals of the game including two by Alaksza and one by Cowan.
 
It was the third time this year Alaksza has scored six goals in a match.
 
Alaksza scored six goals in the match, which was the third time this year she's done that. Crum, Cowan, senior Addison McGowan and senior Szamira Koppany tallied a pair of goals each, while sophomore Alicia Petkov and Futorian also found the back of the net.
 
The Tigers split the season series with Marist after winning the first meeting 15-10 in Providence Rhode Island. Over the two games, Alaksza registered nine goals.
 
In game two, Pacific led 3-1 early after a pair of goals by Futorian. Though, the Spartans came back to tie it 5-5 at halftime and was able to leap ahead in the second half.
 
The Tigers have now won three of the last four and five of the last seven against SJSU.
 
Pacific will play two more matches Sunday when it faces No. 25 Brown at 10:15 a.m. and CSU Monterey Bay at 2:30 p.m. at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. The home and conference opener is Friday, Feb. 21 when the Tigers hots Concordia University Irvine at 6 p.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
