STOCKTON, Calif. – Breaking both the school and conference records for goals in a game, junior
Dora Alaksza found the back of the net 11 times to guide the Pacific women's water polo program to a 20-14 win over Concordia University Irvine on Friday at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
Alaksza topped the previous school record of nine goals, set four times including three times by Molly Smith in the 1997 and 1998 seasons and once by Sarah Harris in 2007. Alaksza's historic achievement also broke the Golden Coast Conference record, per the
conference office.
The 11 goals came on 13 shots, and she also dished out three assists, grabbed five steals and drew three exclusions. Alaksza's performance came in both the home and conference opener for the Tigers (7-5) against CUI (1-8).
The last time Pacific scored 20 goals in a conference match was April 13, 2019 in a 20-3 win over CUI. The Tigers improved to 14-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
Pacific raced out to an early 6-0 lead against CUI, which included two goals by Alaksza and a one by senior
Natalie Johnston. Pacific remained ahead 9-3 at the half after a tally by sophomore
Anna Crum.
Alaksza scored all five of the team's goals in the third quarter to remain ahead 14-9. A score by senior
Addison McGowan increased it to 19-12 with 3:05 left in the fourth. Sophomore
Ella Cowan registered Pacific's final goal to make it 20-13.
With two goals apiece in the match was McGowan, senior
Hila Futorian and sophomore
Alicia Petkov. McGowan was also a distributor with a team-high five assists.
Alaksza has scored 191 career goals, which is seventh all-time in program history.
Friday was the first of seven GCC matches for the Tigers. Up next will be a road game at LMU on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
