LOS ANGELES – In a tale of two games, Pacific women's basketball outscored LMU 17-6 in the fourth quarter to secure a 63-49-win Thursday night at Gersten Pavilion.
Through the first three quarters, Pacific's (13-15, 9-9 WCC) leading trio of graduate
Liz Smith and seniors
Anaya James and
Elizabeth Elliott led the way for Pacific with each racking up over ten points each and hitting all 17 of Pacific's field goals.
In the fourth quarter, freshman
Daria Nestorov and sophomores
Nyah Lowery and
Marina Radocaj stepped up to each hit buckets to take the pressure off Pacific's trio. Pacific's defense in the meantime held LMU (10-15, 4-13 WCC) to just 1-for-14 from the field in that quarter to ice the game.
For the first-time all-season Elliott, Smith, and James each scored north of 15 points in the same game with Elliott netting 18, Smith 17 and James 16. Smith and James were also effective distributors in the win with five and six assists respectively – Smith also racked up four more steals.
With now 72 steals this season, she becomes just Tiger number six to accrue that many in a single season and is the first to do so since
Valerie Higgins' 84 steals during the 2020-21 season.
Elliott meanwhile finished just short of a double-double with nine rebounds but was a force on the offensive glass, adding three more to her name – giving her 273 career offensive boards. In just 27 more boards she will be the third Tiger ever to reach 300 career offensive boards.
49-points allowed to LMU are the fewest scored by either team in series history and comes off the heels of allowing just 51 when these two schools met in Stockton – marking the first time in series history either school has been held under 60 in consecutive games.
Pacific is off until Feb. 27 when it hosts Gonzaga.
