Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

No. 20 Pacific Splits Sunday Matches

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After dropping a tough 11-10 overtime match to No. 25 Brown, the No. 20 women's water polo program bounced back with a 14-10 victory over CSU Monterey Bay on Sunday to conclude the weekend with a win at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Junior Dora Alaksza guided the offense with seven goals in the two games. Sophomore Alicia Petkov was a heavy contributor with a pair of hat tricks.

Scoring a goal in each game were seniors Addison McGowan and Natalie Johnston. Senior Hila Futorian netted a pair against Brown, while sophomore Ella Cowan tallied a pair vs. CSU Monterey Bay.

The Tigers got off to a fast start against Brown and led 4-1 after a goal by Futorian in the first quarter. Pacific maintained a 7-4 edge at halftime after scores by Alaksza and senior Szamira Koppany.

A pair of goals by Petkov made it a 9-4 game with 4:25 left in the third.

Brown scored the next three goals, but a shot by Futorian kept the Tigers ahead 10-7 with 6:27 left. Though, the Bears made a late push and scored with 31 seconds to trim it to 10-9, and followed it up with a last-second goal to send it to overtime where they scored the game's only tally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic made a whopping 16 saves in the contest. She followed it up with seven saves in the win over the Otters.

The afternoon victory got off to a very similar start as Pacific led 4-1 after two goals by Alaksza. The Tigers increased it to 6-2 at the end of the first after a goal by Petkov. Pacific stayed in front 9-5 at the half after another goal by Alaksza.

The closest the Otters could get in the second half was 11-8 with 5:14 remaining in the fourth, but answers by Cowan and Jacobson changed the score to 13-8 to put the game away.

Pacific split two meetings with Brown this season after winning the first 11-10 on the road. The Tigers are now 13-5 all-time against CSU Monterey Bay.

The Tigers will open Golden Coast Conference play at home Friday, Feb. 21 in a 6 p.m. match against Concordia University Irvine at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center. It will also be Pacific's home opener.
