Pacific Hangs Around but Falls in Second Half at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Pacific men's basketball program came out firing Saturday but cooled off in the second half in a 79-65 decision against Oregon State at Gill Coliseum.
 
Pacific (9-20, 4-11 WCC) was in-rhythm in the first half and shot 15-of-25 (.600) from the field and 6-of-8 (.750) from three-point range against the Beavers (18-9, 8-6 WCC). Though, the Tigers were limited to 6-of-20 (.300) shooting in the second half and didn't connect on a three-pointer.
 
Junior Lamar Washington capped a big, well-rounded week with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in 40 minutes. He was coming off a performance of 31 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five steals in a win at LMU on Thursday.
 
A hot shooting night came from senior Petar Krivokapic was he was 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and tallied 14 points. Junior Elijah Fisher recorded 14 points.
 
The game featured five ties and seven lead changes.
 
Oregon State was 13-of-13 from the free throw line. In the first meeting between the two teams this season, the Beavers were 31-of-32 from the charity stripe, and thus over the two games against the Tigers they were 44-of-45 (.978). Damarco Minor finished with 11 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.
 
A fast-paced first half got started with a lay-up with sophomore Jazz Gardner. A three by Krivokapic made it a 17-17 game near the midway point.
 
The Beavers went up 28-21 with 5:56 to go, which was their largest lead of the half. The Tigers used the three-point shot to get back in it as each of their last five field goals were from long range. It included a trio from Krivokapic and pair by Washington to even it 40-40 at the intermission.
 
A driving lay-up by Fisher gave the Tigers a 42-40 lead on their first possession of the second half. Pacific's last lead was 44-43 after a jumper by Washington at the 18:16 mark.
 
The Beavers went back ahead on the ensuing possession and slowly increased it over the course of the half. They upped it to 61-50 with 11:26 remaining. Pacific got it back down to single-digits 69-61 with junior Jefferson Koulibaly at the free throw line.
 
The Tigers will conclude a three-game road swing Thursday when they travel to San Francisco for a 7 p.m. game. Pacific's next home game is Saturday, Feb. 22 when the it hosts Portland at 4 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
 
NOTES
- Pacific held Oregon State to a .450 shooting mark after the Beavers entered the day ranked top-20 in the nation in field goal percentage (.488).
 
- It was just the second time Pacific ever played Oregon State on the road with the first coming on Dec. 1, 1992. The Tigers are now 2-3 all-time against the Beavers with both wins coming at home.
 
- With five assists in the game, Washington is up to 169 on the season and is nine away from tying the school's single-season record of 178 set by Leonard Armato in 1973-74.

- Washington scored 16 points, which was his fourth consecutive game netting 16 or more. He played 40 minutes or more for the sixth time this year. It was his 20th double-digit scoring outing of the season.
 
- Fisher entered the game ranked 11th in the country in free throw attempts and 16th in free throws made. He continued to get to the line and was 6-of-9 in the match, leading the game in both attempts and makes. Fisher turned in his 42nd career double-figure scoring performance and 26th this year.
 
- Krivokapic knocked down four three-pointers for the second straight game as he was 4-of-8 against LMU. He submitted his 11th double-figure scoring game of the year and 33rd of his career. Krivokapic is now shooting .406 from three-point range in conference games this season.
 
- The Tigers have already surpassed their season win total by three games and conference win total by four games from last year.
