Gonzaga Tops Pacific in 3-1 Decision

STOCKTON, Calif. – Despite out-shooting the opponent, the Pacific women's soccer program fell, 3-1, to Gonzaga on Wednesday afternoon at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (4-8-6, 1-5-4 WCC) knotted the game early on in the second half, but a strong pushback by the Bulldogs (7-9-2, 5-3-2 WCC) ultimately gave them the result.

Graduate student Taylor Curtis was the benefactor of a penalty kick in the 49th minute of play. It marked her second goal of the season and of that kind, bringing the score level at 1-1 at the time. Curtis was tied for the team lead in shot attempts with three alongside junior Kaya Rosa and freshman Janelli Villagran.

Freshman Lis Van Herwijnen drew the starting assignment in goal for the Tigers, making five saves after coming off of her career-best performance last time out. Van Herwijnen faced 12 Gonzaga shots on the night, compared to Pacific's 14.

The Bulldogs began the scoring in the tenth minute of play as Amelia Severn scored her first of two goals in the contest. She would later score her team's third goal of the match in the 66th minute. Katelynn Rigg score her eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute.

The Tigers look ahead to their final contest of West Coast Conference play, hosting Washington State for the first time as a member of the conference. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday from Knoles Field.
