Volleyball Falls in Offensive Battle to Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific volleyball program posted its strongest offensive showing of the season but could not put together the runs necessary to defeat Gonzaga, falling in three sets (18-25, 12-25, 23-25) Saturday afternoon at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre.

The team swung for a season high .258 clip from the court (37 kills and 13 errors) with four of the six Tigers (7-15, 1-10 WCC) registering kills hitting over .300 on the afternoon. Graduate Olivia Keller set a new season high .346 hitting percentage (13 kills, four errors), breaking the mark she set back on opening day. In addition to the season best efficiency, Keller's 13 kills led all student-athletes and was one of two to reach double figures in the match.

Freshman Hannah Koester posted seven kills in the match and a .316 hitting percentage, her fourth outing of the season in which she hit over .300 from the court. Fellow freshman Mazi Smith put up her most efficient numbers since the Eagle Invitational by hitting .400 (five kills, one error).

Graduate Valentina Varani also hit .600 from the court, finishing with three kills and no errors.

Sophomore Alessia Couchond led the Tigers in assists with 21 and flirted with a double-double after posting six digs, as did sophomore Alyson Cox with 12 assists and seven digs.

Senior Jayhlin Swain led all student-athletes with ten digs.

Where the Tigers had a successful day attacking, Gonzaga (12-9, 5-5 WCC) was equally effective, hitting .366 on the afternoon, led by Sjakkie Donkers and her ten kills.

Following the short two-match road swing, Pacific returns to the Alex G. Spanos Center for its next match, hosting WCC Newcomer Seattle University on Thursday, Nov. 6. First ball is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+, the match will also celebrate active and former military members in Pacific's annual Military Appreciation Game.
