Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Tigers Downed by Hot Swinging Washington State Team

PULLMAN, Wash. – Though the Pacific volleyball team got stronger with each set, it was not enough to quell Washington State's attack in a three-set (14-25, 19-25, 21-25) loss Thursday night inside Bohler Gym.

The Tigers (7-14, 1-9 WCC) were outhit by Washington State (13-7, 7-3 WCC) .321 to .083 but did get an impressive showing from freshman Mazi Smith on the outside. The freshman totaled her most kills in a road match this season and reached double digits for the second time this season, a mark that brings her now just five kills shy of a career 100.

However, graduate Olivia Keller put up the most kills of any student-athlete in the match with 11 – giving the outside hitter double digit kills in seven of the ten conference matches so far this season.

Fellow graduate Valentina Varani picked up another solo block in the match, which moved her into a tie for the most in the conference at 22 this season and extended her streak to five consecutive matches with at least one solo block.

Smith, alongside freshman Julia Porath, picked up their first career solo blocks in the match with Smith also adding two block assists to lead the team with three total blocks.

Varani also made her contribution on the offensive side of the court from the service line by adding a team-high two more to her ledger.

Sophomore Alyson Cox set a new career high as the team setter, dishing out 25 assists, eclipsing her previous high in which she tied in the previous outing (23 vs. Pepperdine).

Senior Jayhlin Swain tied for the match high ten digs, giving her double digit digs in eight of the ten WCC matches so far this season.

The Tigers will look to get back into the win column on Saturday at Gonzaga – a place they have not lost in since 2017. First ball from the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre is slated for noon on ESPN+.
