Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Gonzaga

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men's soccer program came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision against Gonzaga on Saturday night at Knoles Field.

The Tigers (3-11, 1-5 WCC) had a couple key looks early on to strike, but two second-half goals by the Bulldogs (4-6-3, 1-3-2 WCC) proved to be the difference in Pacific's penultimate non-conference match of the regular season.

Of the notable performers for the Tigers, senior Alberto Cruz generated a couple scoring chance, including a header in the final moments that nearly gave the Tigers a lifeline. Pacific collectively out-shot Gonzaga in the second half by a 7-4 margin, but the whole night ultimately saw the visitors out-pace that category, 12-11.

Junior Mateus Ruiz-Hurst received the starting nod for his team-leading 12th start of the year. The native of San Jose, California collected four saves in the effort defensively.

Gonzaga scored goals by Robbie Mora and Drew Pederson that came in the 69th and 75th minutes of the match. The Tigers mounted pressure late to break the shutout bid but came up short. Pacific's six corner kicks were the second-most in a contest this season, behind eight against LMU earlier this year.

Up next, the Tigers head south for their penultimate road contest of West Coast Conference play, taking on San Diego at 7 p.m. on Friday.
