Pacific, LMU Battle to 1-1 Draw

LOS ANGELES – The Pacific women's soccer program settled with a 1-1 draw against LMU on Saturday night at Sullivan Field.

The Tigers (4-6-4, 1-3-2 WCC) took in their fourth draw of the season, battling back from a 1-0 deficit, thanks to junior Whitney Garn's equalizer in the result with the Lions (5-5-2, 2-3-1 WCC).

Shortly after the Lions broke the ice in the 68th minute, Garn was sprung with an open lane to the net and capitalized on a shot past the LMU goalkeeper into the lower right corner to level the score in the 79th minute.

Graduate student Taylor Curtis fed the ball perfectly to Garn, who made no mistake collecting her second goal of the season. Garn is now tied with sophomore Sierah McCallum for the team lead in goals with two apiece.

The Tigers generated some good looks early on in the contest, out-shooting the Lions 8-3 after 45 minutes. Freshman Janelli Villagran and McCallum were factors up front, tying with a team-high three shot attempts each. Two of McCallum's three shot attempts were on target.

Defensively, freshman Lis Van Herwijnen bailed the Tigers out in several situations especially in the second half, totaling six saves on the night. Her six saves marks the second-most in a single game of her Tiger career, lowering her goals against average to 2.22 in the process.

Following a scoreless first half, LMU struck first off the head of Callan Harrington. Pacific responded moments later on the sweet feed by Curtis to the foot of Garn. Despite the pressure mounting by LMU late, the Tigers shut the door on any more scoring opportunities and earned the 1-1 draw on the road.

The Tigers look ahead to their Pink Game against San Francisco at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday from Knoles Field.
