STOCKTON, Calif. – A four-goal sequence in the final ten minutes presented a chaotic finish to the West Coast Conference clash on Wednesday night as the Pacific men's soccer program dropped a 3-2 decision to San Francisco at Knoles Field.
The tale of two halves saw the Tigers (3-9, 1-3 WCC) play with a lead until a back-and-forth frenzy put the Dons (7-3-1, 2-2 WCC) on top at the end of 90 minutes.
Senior
Jacob Heisner and freshman
Josephat Yangyuoru were the catalysts on offense that found the back of the net in the contest for the Tigers. Heisner notched his first career goal with a rocket of a shot that gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute of play. Senior
Alberto Cruz and freshman
Dominic Berrios were each credited with an assist on Heisner's icebreaker.
Yangyuoru collected a rebound off an odd bounce and chipped home a 2-2 equalizer with 46 seconds remaining in the match for his second goal of the season.
Defensively, junior
Milo Risenhoover made his first career start at home and second overall on the year, totaling four saves off 13 shots faced by USF.
Following a scoreless first half, the Tigers and Dons picked up the tempo and intensity as Heisner broke the deadlock for Pacific's first home goal during WCC action.
In the 83rd minute, the Dons countered with a pair of goals in a span of 25 seconds to take a 2-1 lead.
The Tigers would not go away easily as a deep drive bounced and found an open Yangyuoru, who kicked the ball into the open cage to even things up at 2-2.
With 16 seconds left on the clock, the Dons capitalized on a free kick opportunity to ultimately ice the game with the 3-2 result.
Pacific looks ahead to its next WCC clash, taking on No. 4 Portland on the road at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
