STOCKTON, Calif. – A rare off night from the service line put Pacific volleyball in a hole it was ultimately unable to overcome, falling in four sets (16-25, 25-17, 18-25, 21-25) to San Francisco on Saturday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
The Tigers (7-10, 1-5 WCC) committed 15 service errors in the match, breaking a run of seven straight matches with single digit errors from the service line. Despite the errors, Pacific still held an 8-7 edge over the Dons (3-13, 1-5 WCC) serving, led by graduates
Olivia Keller and
Valentina Varani with two aces each. Keller was also the team's leading option offensively by garnering 16 kills in 37 attempts, turning in the third double digit effort in the past four matches. The Modesto native finished with ten digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
Keller was aided offensively by senior
Logan Blutreich and freshman
Hannah Koester, who each put up nine kills. On her fifth kill of the match Koester recorded the 100th kill of her career and the best outing of conference play and her highest total since swinging for ten kills against Fresno State in September.
Blutreich meanwhile maintained herself as Pacific's number two option offensively at 108 kills on the season while serving as the most efficient option of any Tiger with 40 or more total attacks this season (.225 hitting percentage).
Sophomores
Alessia Couchond and
Alyson Cox turned in another strong performance setting their teammates as the former led the Tigers with 19 assists and the latter right behind at 18 assists.
Senior
Jayhlin Swain from the back row had the match-high in digs with 17.
The program only plays once next week, taking one of two bye-dates on Thursday before returning to the court next Saturday at home against Santa Clara. First ball from the Alex G. Spanos Center will be at noon and can be seen on ESPN+.
