Volleyball Falls at Home in Hard Fought Match

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific volleyball program put up a valiant effort in all three sets of Saturday afternoon's bout with Santa Clara but could not overcome the Broncos in a 25-27, 20-25, 22-25 defeat inside the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Graduate Olivia Keller and senior Logan Blutreich reprised their roles as the focus of the Tigers (7-11, 1-6 WCC) offense, that included a run in which the pair scored three straight points in the first set during a rally that saw Pacific stave off six-straight set points to send the opening set to extra points.

Looking at the match more broadly, Keller's 13 kills tied for the match-high with Santa Clara's (9-9, 4-3 WCC) Cate Shanahan while Blutreich's ten kills made her one of four student-athletes in the match to reach double figures.

In addition to pacing the team in kills, Keller also tied for the match high in digs at 12 and notched her sixth double-double of the season and the first time this season she's posted a double-double in consecutive matches.

Graduate Valentina Varani had a strong showing for the Tigers recording five blocks (three solo, two assist) for her most effective outing in the middle since the home opener against LMU on Oct. 2. The three solo blocks also tie her career-high, a mark set earlier this season at Georgia Southern (Sept. 6).

Serving up two aces on the afternoon, senior Jayhlin Swain pulled her career total to 98 while sophomore Alessia Couchond facilitated 31 assists to lead the team in that department, which tied her best outing since the LMU match two weeks ago.

The Tigers are back to having two match weeks on the calendar, finishing up the seven match homestand next week with a Thursday showdown with Portland before a Saturday bout with Pepperdine.
The Portland match is slated for 6 p.m. and the Pepperdine match at noon, both can be streamed on ESPN+.
